1985-1986
"A Story of Passion: The Origins of Mathias Marine Sports"
"It all began in the 1980s with Jacques Picard, a visionary water-skiing enthusiast. His dream? To build much more than a marina—a comprehensive hub bringing sales, service, and storage together under one roof for the boating community. Between 1985 and 1986, the project came to life in Saint-Mathias-sur-le-Richelieu on land purchased from Mr. Poudrette. Following a brief partnership with Mr. Serge Leclerc, Jacques Picard took sole control of the business. Alone at the helm and driven by sheer determination, he laid the foundations for what would become a landmark institution for boating and powersports in Quebec."
1986-1988
"The Building Challenge: A Marina Like No Other"
"To bring his vision to life, Jacques Picard didn't take the easy way out. Drawing on his extensive experience in the steel industry, he took on a colossal challenge: purchasing the entire structure of an arena in the James Bay region and transporting it all the way to Saint-Mathias. Once the foundations were poured, he erected this massive framework, which would become the heart of the marina. With the help of his friend Réjean to construct the docks, he built with his own two hands the foundations of an institution that would transform the region's boating landscape."
1988
"From a Family Adventure to National Recognition"
"Spring 1988 marked a historic milestone with the official opening of Marina St-Mathias. Offering full service from the very beginning—including sales, repairs, dock rentals, and storage—it proudly became an authorized dealer for Monterey and Mainship. This was also the year the next generation took root: 16-year-old Patrick Picard made his debut on the docks alongside his friend Jean-Philippe Carrera. The early days were authentic and demanding. Before the site was paved, handling the boats was a true technical challenge, with heavy equipment frequently getting stuck in the mud. Yet, this tenacity paid off: by 1998, the Marina enjoyed a growing reputation across Quebec. Always striving for excellence, Jacques Picard traveled to international boat shows, such as the one in Chicago, to import top innovations. Over the years, this quest for quality allowed the Marina to represent prestigious brands like Silverton, Cruisers Yachts, Formula, and Maxum, consolidating its position as a leader in the marine industry."
1988-2010
"The Restaurant Sector: 20 Years of Shared Moments"
"At the end of 1988, Mr. Poudrette’s former house began its second life, transforming into the social heart of the site as a restaurant. This project quickly became a true family affair. Managed first by Louise Picard and later by her daughter Mélanie, this landmark destination left its mark on the region through three distinct eras: Fine Dining (L'Excalibur & L'Armada): A decade of success driven by Chef Aimé Chauvin, renowned for his seafood and his vibrant two-story atmosphere. Festivities & Live Shows: An era of grand scale events, hosting up to 300 guests under the management of Daniel Jutras. Beach Club Vibe (Bay Bar Terrasse): From 2006 to 2011, the site became the ultimate summer hotspot, complete with a pool and a terrace overlooking the Richelieu River. In 2011, this chapter came to a close with the demolition of the building, paving the way for the marina's expansion and future projects."
1998
"Tested by Fire, Built to Rise"
"November 9, 1998, will remain forever etched in the history of Marina St-Mathias. Just as expansion and modernization work was nearing completion, a tragic accident during metal cutting sparked a devastating fire. Despite the response of over sixty firefighters, the blaze was uncontrollable: the building was a total loss. Faced with the heartbreaking sight of charred beams, Jacques Picard and his team refused to give up. The very next day, the rebuilding process began back on the drawing board. A true race against time was underway to secure the upcoming winter season. Far from destroying the Marina, this fire forged the legendary resilience of Mathias Marine. Tearing everything down to rebuild it better: that was the ultimate challenge."
2001
"Rebirth and the Drive for Expansion"
"In 2001, the ashes of the fire gave way to a brilliant success. Marina St-Mathias was reborn with a larger, more modern facility than the original. This new complex was no longer just a showroom; it became a true hub of technical expertise, bringing mechanical, upholstery, and fiberglass workshops together under one roof. Armed with this new infrastructure, the Marina cemented its reputation and diversified its offering: 130 fully serviced dock slips (including fuel, pump-out, and amenities), boat rentals, state-of-the-art heated storage, and a lively restaurant scene complete with a pool and patio."
2001-2003
"A Family’s Ambition, an Institution’s Growth"
"Barely after completion of the reconstruction in 2001, Jacques Picard was already looking at the bigger picture. Ever the visionary, he launched 'Phase 2' of the Marina—a major project that broke ground in 2003. This colossal expansion added 40,000 square feet to the existing structure, marking the beginning of a series of major expansions to better serve an ever-growing clientele. In 2002, Mélanie Picard officially joined the ranks as a technical advisor at the service counter. With Jacques, Louise, Patrick, and now Mélanie, the entire family had joined forces. Animated by a shared vision of growth and excellence, together they propelled the family business to new heights."
2005
"The Marina Just Keeps Growing"
"Driven by unprecedented demand, the success of Marina St-Mathias just kept growing. In 2005, Jacques Picard launched Phase 3 of the project. This colossal expansion added 106,500 square feet of floor space, cementing the Marina’s position as a leader in indoor storage in Quebec. The team also expanded with the arrival of Kevin Boutin, Mélanie Picard’s partner, who joined the company as a mechanic. His expertise further strengthened the family’s technical know-how, supporting the exponential growth of what had become a true institution."
2009
"Lightning-Fast Expansion"
"With the colossal addition of 106,500 square feet in 2009, Marina de St-Mathias officially became the largest full-service marina in the country. This meteoric rise was backed by a solid team of around thirty specialists working tirelessly, even in the dead of winter. The management of this industry leader rested on a tight-knit, strategic family core: Patrick directing the workshops, Mélanie and Louise heading administration, and Kevin leading the sales department. Together, they transformed Jacques Picard’s vision into an essential benchmark in the marine world."
2012-2013
"A Record-Breaking Year and New Horizons"
"The year 2013 stood out as a historic milestone for Marina de St-Mathias, marked by record-breaking sales and an unparalleled market presence. From the showroom to the Montreal, Quebec City, and Sherbrooke boat shows, the company deployed unprecedented energy to connect with boating enthusiasts through on-water sea trials and open house events. Prestigious Partnerships: The arrival of world-renowned brands Four Winns, Glastron, and Premier Pontoons further solidified the inventory. Facility Modernization: The showroom was completely renovated to showcase these new lineups, while the reception area was relocated to provide a smoother, more personalized welcome, situated right at the heart of the sales department."
2015
"A New Generation, a Boundless Horizon"
"In 2015, Patrick, Mélanie, and Kevin took the reins of the family business. To back their ambitions, they rebranded under a new identity: Mathias Marine Sports. Guided by the slogan 'Choose Your Adventure,' their offering expanded beyond the water to include motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. To accommodate these new divisions, the complex underwent a transformation with a bold vertical expansion. Adding 26,000 square feet on the second floor, installing majestic steel staircases, and redesigning the reception area turned the facility into a multisport destination unique in Quebec."
2017
"To New Heights: Mathias Marine Sports, a Unique Destination"
"Starting in 2017, propelled by growing success, Patrick and Kevin launched new expansion projects. The goal was clear: transform Mathias Marine Sports into a true tourist destination. More than just a retail space, the complex will soon feature a restaurant and bar with a stunning view of the Richelieu River, designed to welcome boaters and outdoor enthusiasts all year round. Today, the family business born from a bold dream employs over 100 dedicated team members. Over the span of forty years, it has successfully evolved and reinvented itself without ever losing its DNA. Staying true to its course, Mathias Marine Sports continues to forge straight ahead, ready to gear up your next adventures—on land and on water."
2018 - 2020
"Passion Stronger Than Crisis"
"Already firmly established as the go-to reference for recreational vehicles, Mathias Sport sparked a true sales revolution between 2018 and 2020, scoring an impressive milestone of 5,000 units delivered per year. Our goal? To push past the dealership walls and share our passion for Powersports from coast to coast. The 2020 Pivot: Resilience in the Face of COVID The year 2020 kicked off with record-breaking sales at the Montreal Motorcycle Show. Although the COVID crisis completely disrupted our daily routines, it never slowed our engine. In the face of lockdowns, the Mathias Sport teams stepped up to accelerate our digital shift and reinvent remote sales."
2020-2021

"In 2020, Mathias Sport embraced the electric shift by introducing its very first lineup of e-bikes. The year 2021 brought a true explosion in sales, driven by the arrival of legendary brands like Husqvarna and GasGas. The secret to this success? Our Demo Rides, which allowed hundreds of enthusiasts to test and adopt these high-performance machines in real-world conditions. A new chapter of freedom had begun!"

This pivotal year was highlighted by the massive success of our Demo Rides in Bromont, bringing our community together for unique customer test-ride events. Driven by the launch of the Team Gravel Bike Mathias Sport and our group rides in the field, we reached a historic milestone with more than 1,500 bikes sold in a single year!"
